THE STAFF AT RIVENDELL FARM
Rivendell Farm is located in Durham Connecticut, a small community with a horse population that exceeds the human count.
The Farm name “Rivendell” is the magical land of the elves from the book/movie “Lord of the Rings”. The elves were peaceful and soulful beings that could heal and talk to animals. It is a beautiful place set by a stream filled with fantasy and dreams.
Dawne Wilson
Head Trainer
Dawne Wilson is a proud 3rd generation horse person- her grandfather was a trainer and her Dad raised, trained and showed AQHA. It’s safe to say that horse training and riding are in her blood. Dawne grew up on the 20 stall horse farm right here in Middletown, where they bred, raised, broke and trained their own horses.
She began her riding career in 4-H, showing 4-H and open shows western as a youth. Then moving on to the AQHA Shows and competing in the Hunter Jumper/CHSA shows as a late teen/amateur before trading in her amateur status and becoming a full time trainer/instructor and running CHQH.
She attended Post University and showed on the hunt seat team on the flat and over fences and graduated with a BS degree in Equine management.
In addition to running her own training program and business, she also coached the Sacred Heart University IHSA/NCAA western teams and the Post University IHSA western team.
During her time at Post, she studied at Brinsbury College in England and received her BHS (British Horse Society) Instructor and grooms certifications, showed training level dressage and show jumping and completed her practicum in breeding at Catherston Stud Farm under British Olympic Dressage rider, Jennie Loriston-Clarke. Under her tutelage Dawne expanded her knowledge in foaling babies, raising and training babies, and schooling dressage horses.
Dawne regularly takes clients and horses to horse shows both in state, and out of state at both the schooling level through the rated divisions and the AQHA breed shows.

Anna Byars
Assistant Trainer

Anna has worked with horses since she was six years old and has maintained a passion for them ever since. Anna competed in IEA and IHSA circuits as a student and began her coaching career while still in college. While her love of horses was always consistent, her newer love of educating other riders continues to flourish daily. Anna believes that riding takes a great balance of physical ability and the mental/emotional component. Her goal is always to support her students, and her students’ goal is to support their horses. Anna emphasizes the communication between the horse and the rider in her teaching. As an IEA alumna, Anna has continued her involvement with the organization now from the coaching side and enjoys coaching all ages and skill levels in addition. She loves providing opportunities and supporting her student’s success in the same way the equestrian community has done for her.
Noah Heft
Riding Instructor

Noah Heft has been riding horses since the age of seven, and has had a lifelong dream of being a riding instructor. At eighteen years old he traveled to Waco Texas and became a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) Certified English and Western Level 2 instructor. Noah is also a third degree black belt in the World Tang Soo Do Association and is learning to build western saddles.
Noah combines his mind for craftsmanship, the life skills and teaching style he learned as a martial artist and plugs them into his riding instruction. Focusing on building a strong foundation with both horse and rider that can be built upon to create solid and versatile riders, all while teaching his students the value of various life skills like perseverance, confidence, and courage. Noah seeks for all of his students to become better riders than he is, seeking to build confident riders who love the art of riding as much as he does!
Roger Passavant
Barn Manager

Roger’s commitment to Rivendell Farm is evident in everything he does. Responsible for the entire property as well as individualized horse care, his meticulous attention to every detail and knowledge of property maintenance create the magical beauty that is “Rivendell Farm”.
Tending to the rolling lawns, grass pastures, and riding arenas are secondary only to the care he gives each horse and attention he gives to each person. Loved by the “kids” and respected by all who know him, whether he is working on the property, working with the horses, or coaching the local soccer teams, Roger gives 100% to everything he does. His favorite saying; “30 days at Rivendell fixes everything”
Grayson Hesser Dykas
Assistant Barn Manager

Grayson has been around horses since the age of 11, she started riding with a family friend until she decided she wanted to grow as a rider. She began taking lessons at Rivendell until she was offered her first job as a farm hand during her freshman year of high school. After attending the summer camps there for several years, she grew and transitioned from camper to staff, eventually taking on the responsibility of running the camps. In high school, she also rode for Rivendell’s IEA team, competing and gaining valuable experience.
She enjoys coming to the barn simply for the love of the animals and the people that surround them. Her co-workers and staff she thinks of as family, and cares for our horses as if they’re her own.
Sage Stachowiak
Owner
Sage has grown up with animals always at the heart of who she is. From owning a large pack of dogs, working in animal rescue, and riding and owning horses she believes that there is nothing more rewarding than the bond with an animal. She did not get to grow up riding as a kid but came to the equestrian community as an adult. After more than a decade of riding, owning and showing she decided to take the leap and combine her passions of building teams and taking care of animals into owning her own farm. Buying Rivendell Farm was the biggest, scariest, but also the most rewarding thing she has ever done, in fact she named her parent LLC, Rosemoore Acres, with the same sentiment. Have you ever seen the movie ‘We Bought A Zoo’ with Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson? Well, the movie features a newly widowed father searching for a new home and start with his kids after the loss of his wife. He eventually goes on to take a chance on ‘Rosemore Zoo’ an old zoo that had been partially abandoned and left in the hands of a few caring (and quirky) individuals. When he’s reflecting on buying this zoo on a whim he says “You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it. This is the biggest, scariest thing I have ever done, but it’s an adventure! Life is all about adventure! And at the end we will look back and see that this was the best adventure of my entire life.’
Rivendell Farm and Rosemoore Acres are my biggest adventure. At the end of the movie, he realizes not only that he bought a zoo, but also that he found his family in it. He found his new family amongst the staff, caregivers, clients and animals that he was able to provide a place for them to call home. That is my goal and dream here at Rivendell Farm. Is that we all find our family, our community and we enjoy this crazy adventure together.
David Stachowiak
Owner
Setting foot on Rivendell Farm for the first time brought back childhood memories of summers at David’s grandparents’ farm in Wisconsin with barefoot races down the gravel driveway, pretending to work the fields on the green Oliver tractor, and a claw foot tub in one of the bathrooms of the hand built farmhouse.
Owning this farm carries on the tradition of farming in David’s family, most recently his grandparents who grew cash crops for around 25 years to his aunt and uncle who run a hobby farm. Although David is originally from Wisconsin, Connecticut now feels like home having lived in the northeast for the last 20 years.
The first morning David woke up at 2 Cherry Lane, and looked out over the pastures he said “if I can wake up every morning and look at this, that will make me very happy”! The magic of Rivendell Farm.
